PoE 2 Citadel Boss Hunting in City Maps from U4GM

Post by glico »

In PoE 2, a map can take longer than expected when you stop to fight every encounter without a clear reward in mind. Summoning Circles offer a more focused alternative for players who enjoy boss fights and want opportunities to find Path of Exile 2 Currency while mapping. The challenge is choosing encounters your build can finish efficiently rather than adding every source of difficulty at once.

Build around the circle before adding difficulty

Start with Atlas passives that improve the chance of encountering Summoning Circles. Some options require higher area levels or further progression, so check what is available before committing to a route. A setup built around finding circles has a clearer purpose than one that spends points on several unrelated rewards.

Once the appearance options are covered, consider what your character can handle during a boss fight. The following passives change the encounter in different ways.

Challenging Foe can add a monster modifier to a circle boss, increasing the difficulty for a potential reward.
Overheard Summons may add another boss, making positioning and sustained damage more important.
Energised Precipitate can add several Essences to the encounter.
Runic Flare can upgrade a nearby map boss after a circle is completed.

These choices do not all serve the same goal. Runic Flare affects the wider map and is not guaranteed to trigger, while the others alter the circle encounter itself. If extra modifiers or another boss regularly force long retreats, a simpler setup may make better use of your mapping time.

Choose bosses or packs to suit your build

Blood on the Stones presents a choice between two encounter styles. Its Bosses option makes Summoning Circle Bosses Powerful, making it the more direct fit for a boss-focused route. The Guardians option instead places two groups of random monsters around the runes.

Guardians can be appealing to a build that clears packs comfortably, but added enemies may interfere with movement or make it harder to keep damage on the boss. Choose based on how your character fights, not just on the number of monsters present. If you need open space to dodge, the Bosses option may feel more manageable.

Match the area to the reward you want

Specialized passives are most useful when your map supply supports them. Before spending points, decide which type of area you intend to run and what kind of encounter you want to add.

Bring Me Your Leader gives circles in City Areas a small chance to summon a random Citadel Boss.
Danger in the Wilds offers a similar chance for a random Deadly Map Boss in Non-City Areas at level 70 or higher.
From Distances Untold gives circle bosses in Cleansed Areas a chance to gain another modifier.
Bosses modified through From Distances Untold have a further chance to drop a Fracturing Orb.

None of these outcomes is assured. The Cleansed Area route also asks more of your build because the possible reward is tied to a harder boss. Concentrating on one area type makes it easier to judge whether its encounters fit your character and goals.

Keep each encounter controlled

Check map modifiers before entering and avoid combinations that undermine your main defense or make your damage unreliable. At the circle, clear enough nearby enemies to create room, identify the runes, and keep the boss where you can move around it. If extra runes are available, consider reactivating the circle only when you are ready for another fight. Stay until the encounter has finished before moving on.

Compare several maps by completion time, circle frequency, difficulty, and useful rewards rather than judging the setup from one lucky fight. If you are considering poe2 rmt, weigh the cost against your goals and the game's rules. Then adjust one part of your Atlas setup at a time so you can see which choices make your runs more comfortable.
