Three weeks for a simple brake job is ridiculous

I honestly cannot believe how long some places take to do basic maintenance. I called my usual dealership yesterday to schedule brake pad replacement and they told me the earliest appointment is three weeks out. Three weeks for brakes which is literally a safety issue. I started looking around online for alternatives and found a really informative read about why local garages often prioritize customers faster than the big dealers. It explained that neighborhood shops rely on repeat business so they can't afford to make people wait forever. I think I'm going to cancel my dealership appointment and find a local place this week. Has anyone else made the switch from dealerships to local shops and actually gotten faster service?
